At Trail of Bits, 497 Carroll St, Floor 7, Brooklyn. You know the drill: we run 6 to 8 PM, start right on the dot, and we are out by 8:30.
Speaking: José Manuel Calderón Trilla, and Pratik Agarwal with Kevin Lin from Figma. Thanks to Trail of Bits for hosting.
José Manuel Calderón Trilla is the Executive Director of the Haskell Foundation. He has a PhD from the University of York, previously worked at Galois, and was a lecturer at the University of Maryland.
Talk abstract: We will look at the ideas behind STM, its implementation in GHC, and why STM (whether in Haskell or not) should have taken over the world, but did not.
Pratik Agarwal and Kevin Lin are engineers at Figma. Kevin works on the databases team.
Talk abstract: Scalability and reliability gaps in our Redis platform were a growing threat to Figma's site availability. This is the story of how we built FigCache, a foundational technology that underpins a reimagined internal platform for ephemeral data.
